About Mufich Audio
Mufich Audio is the working notebook of a technician who earns a living repairing vintage HiFi and studio equipment, then spends the evening mixing records on the same bench. Everything published here comes out of that shop rather than out of a press kit.
Why the bench notes exist
The premise is simple: a spec sheet describes a component, not a machine, and it certainly does not describe what a machine does to a mix. So posts tend to start with a measurement — distortion against level, frequency response before and after a recap, tape compression at a given fluxivity — and work outward toward a practical conclusion. Transformer behaviour, console and reel-to-reel restoration, monitoring placement and the honest question of whether a plugin actually reproduces the hardware it models all get the same treatment. Sometimes the emulation holds up. Often it does not, and saying so is the point.
What you will find
Expect first-person writing with test results attached, written for engineers, home-studio mixers and repair hobbyists who already know the vocabulary. There are no affiliate roundups, no store section, and no product listings. When a claim is uncertain, it gets flagged as uncertain instead of rounded up into a headline.
- Bench measurements on preamps, compressors, converters and tape machines
- Restoration logs for consoles, two-track decks and outboard power supplies
- A/B comparisons between analog hardware and the plugins claiming to match it
- Monitoring and room notes from a working mix space, not a showroom
- Repair observations that explain why a circuit sounds the way it does
All material on this page is published for educational and informational purposes. It reflects one technician’s measurements on specific units and should not be read as legal, financial or professional advice; verify anything critical against your own instruments, documentation and service literature before acting on it.
